Itinerary

Duration: 8 hours (approximately)
  • Hakone Shrine (Pass by)

As we walk together along the beautiful Cedar Avenue, we’ll reach Hakone Shrine already after a couple of minutes. You’ll notice right away why this shrine is one of Hakone’s absolute must-see spots. Founded back in 757 AD during the Nara period, it’s dedicated to three deities collectively known as “Hakone Okami.” At the entrance, the iconic torii gate rises peacefully from the edge of Lake Ashi, creating that magical ‘floating’ effect everyone loves. As we continue along the shrine’s pathway and make our way up the long stone steps, we’ll pass through the fourth and fifth torii gates before arriving at the main hall. It’s a really special place to experience together.

  • Hakone Sightseeing Cruise Motohakone-Ko Pier (Pass by)

From Hakone Shrine, we’ll make our way back to Motohakone-ko and board the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise toward Togendai-ko. It’s a beautiful ride across Lake Ashi, and each of the three pirate ships has its own unique, elegant interior where we can relax for a while. If we step out onto the deck, we’ll be surrounded by the peaceful mountain scenery of Hakone, a perfect moment to just breathe and enjoy the view.

    Admission ticket free
  • Hakone Ropeway (Pass by)

After lunch, we’ll hop on the Hakone Ropeway and make our way up to Owakudani. When we’re lucky we may even see Mt. Fuji.

    Admission ticket free
  • Owaku-dani Valley (Pass by)

This area, now one of Hakone’s most iconic spots, was created over 3,000 years ago during an eruption of Mount Hakone. Even today, you can still see white steam rising from the mountainside. Together with the distinctive sulfur scent drifting across the reddish, barren landscape, it’s one of the highlights of our visit. And when we’re here, we definitely shouldn’t miss the famous “Owakudani black eggs.” They turn black when they’re boiled in the hot spring water, as the minerals cling to the shell. People say eating one adds seven years to your life! Whether or not that’s true, enjoying them while taking in the scenery is a really fun part of the experience.

    Admission ticket free
  • Hakone Gora Tourism Information Center, Gora Station (Pass by)

We’ll make a short stop at Gora Station to explore the charming little area around it, and then continue our way back toward Hakone-Yumoto.

    Admission ticket free
