In Imbe, the birthplace of Bizen pottery, this pottery is a typical pottery of Japan that has been used and cherished in daily life throughout the town. With a guide who is knowledgeable about Bizen pottery, this special guided tour is designed to convey the wonder of the town and the depth of Bizen pottery, not only by shopping, but also by actually meeting the potters and experiencing local life.

This is a unique chance to visit the studios of Bizen potters with a tour guide and listen to their stories about the origins of Bizen pottery, how it is made, the differences among ceramics in Japan and other countries, trivia about the past, and other topics.

After hearing directly from a Bizen potter about the culture and roots of Bizen pottery and the process of making it, the artist will give a demonstration on making plates, teacups, and other items. This is a unique chance to learn about the artist's techniques and the atmosphere in their studio.

What to expect

1. Visit the traditional Bizen pottery center where you can take a look many potter's masterpieces.

2. The English speaking guide takes you to the actual Bizen potter's studio. The potter shows you a demonstration how to make Bizen pottery and explains the history of Bizen Pottery.

3. You can make your own Bizen pottery by yourself with an instruction by the potter.

4. The guide takes you to town walking where the Bizen pottery was born.

5. You will visit Bizen pottery shops and can buy actual Bizen pottery

With a history of approximately 1,000 years, Bizen pottery is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan.
In this guided tour, you will not only meet Bizen pottery artists, but also learn about the roots of the region and the appeal of Bizen pottery, which is rooted in modern life, in an easy-to-understand manner from a knowledgeable guide.

9:30 : Start tour from Imbe train station
9:35-10:00 : Viewing Bizen pottery (or visiting ancient kiln).
10:10-11:40 : Lecture and experience of Bizen pottery supported by professional Bizen potters.
11:40-12:15 : Walking around historical Imbe area(Amatsu shrine etc.) .
12:30-13:00 : lunch (vegitarian,vegan menu can be arranged)
