    Puerta de la Justicia

    Meeting point with the guide and beginning of the experience. After receiving the audio system for better hearing and group comfort, we will start with a brief introduction to the history of the monument to provide context. At this location we will analyze the symbolism and meaning of the Justice Gate, one of the most emblematic entrances to the Alhambra, through which we will enter the monument.

    Plaza de los Aljibes

    In this large open square we will observe the former military area of the complex and understand its strategic role. From here we will enjoy views of the Albaicín, a neighborhood declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while learning about the close historical and visual relationship between these two areas. There will also be time for photographs.

    We will pass through the Wine Gate while the guide explains its origin, function and the symbolism behind this structure, one of the oldest in the Alhambra complex.

    We will visit the impressive Palace of Charles V, where the historical context of the emperor’s arrival in Granada and his relationship with the Alhambra will be explained. We will explore its Renaissance architectural features and its importance in the History of Art. The guide will also highlight a unique architectural feature of the building, and there will be time to go up to the upper level to enjoy magnificent views and take photographs.

    We will learn about the history of this church, built on the site of the former main mosque of the complex. The guide will explain its transformation after the Christian conquest and its significance in the historical evolution of the monument. There will also be time to enter and visit the interior.

    We will visit a traditional workshop where you will be able to observe the craft of Granada’s traditional marquetry, a technique that dates back to the Nasrid period.     At this point we will see original cannons from the Napoleonic period, reminders of the French occupation of the city. The exterior tour around the surroundings of the Alhambra ends here. The guide will say goodbye to travelers who selected the 1 hour and 30 minute option, while those who chose the full experience will continue towards the historic center to complete the visit.
