After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through picturesque hills, terraced farmlands, and mountain villages to reach Machha Khola. The journey follows the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki Rivers, offering glimpses of rural Nepal.
The trail gently winds through settlements along the Budhi Gandaki River. Pass Khorla Besi, a traditional Gurung village, and stop at Tatopani, known for its soothing natural hot springs. Continue along suspension bridges and rocky cliffs before reaching Jagat, a welcoming Gurung village and the official Manaslu permit checkpoint.
Ascend to Salleri and descend to Sirdibas, where prayer flags and small gompas line the trail. Continue to Philim, the largest village in the region, and an important checkpoint. After lunch in Chisapani, trek through bamboo forests and millet fields, crossing several suspension bridges before arriving in Deng.
A steep climb leads to Bhee Phedi, offering views of Mani walls and mountain ridges. The path continues through forests to Ghap, then follows the Budhi Gandaki River before a final uphill stretch to Namrung—a peaceful village surrounded by forested hills and monasteries.
Today’s trail passes through Sho, Lihi, and Shyala villages, showcasing Buddhist culture, chortens, and terraced fields. Panoramic views of Manaslu, Himchuli, and Nadi Chuli dominate the horizon. The trek gently descends into Samagaon, the region’s largest settlement with rich Tibetan heritage and stunning mountain backdrops.
Spend the day adjusting to high altitude. Option 1: Hike to Manaslu Base Camp (4,800m) for breathtaking Himalayan views. Option 2: Visit Pungyen Gompa, an ancient monastery with sweeping valley vistas. Both options offer excellent opportunities to acclimatize and explore the spiritual side of the Himalayas. Overnight: Samagaon Teahouse
Descend toward the Budhi Gandaki River and cross a suspension bridge before gently ascending toward Samdo. The trail passes Mani walls, prayer flags, and grazing yaks against a backdrop of snow peaks. Samdo is a traditional Tibetan village offering a glimpse into trans-Himalayan life.
Take a short hike toward the Tibetan border (4,800m), offering dramatic mountain views and insights into borderland culture. Return to Samdo in the afternoon to explore the village monastery and interact with locals. This easy-paced day aids acclimatization before crossing the high pass.
The trail climbs steadily over rocky terrain with increasing altitude. Cross an icy stream and continue toward Dharmashala (Larkya Phedi). The short trek helps conserve energy for the next day’s pass crossing. In the afternoon, take a light acclimatization hike around 200 meters above the camp.
Today marks the most challenging and rewarding part of the trek. Start early to cross Larkya La Pass, with breathtaking views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. Descend carefully through glacial moraines and alpine meadows to reach Bimthang (3,720m).
Descend through lush forests, passing Hampuk, Gho, and several small villages. The scenery transitions from alpine to subtropical landscapes, filled with waterfalls and terraced farmlands. Reach Dharapani by late afternoon
