This small-group tour is designed specifically for cruise guests who want to experience the Netherlands’ most iconic sights in one well-paced day. With a maximum of 12 travelers, you enjoy a personal experience with an expert local guide, smooth transportation from the Rotterdam cruise terminal, and carefully planned timing that fits your ship’s schedule.
Instead of large bus groups or rushed stops, this tour combines historic Delft, a guided visit to Royal Delft, and the UNESCO windmills of Kinderdijk, including a boat ride and windmill visit. Everything is arranged in advance, allowing you to relax, learn, and enjoy the day with confidence.
Your guide will welcome you at the entrance/exit of the cruise port in Rotterdam, holding a sign with "Holland City Tours: Delft & Windmills". The minivan will be parked around the corner.
Departing from the cruise terminal, you will drive through parts of Rotterdam. Along the way, your guide provides an engaging introduction to the city, its post-war reconstruction, modern architecture, and role as Europe’s largest port. You will see Rotterdam’s impressive skyline from the vehicle, before continuing on to Delft.
In Delft, enjoy a relaxed 1-hour guided walking tour through the historic city center. You will pass the Old Church with its famous leaning tower, stroll along Delft’s centuries-old canals, and explore the lively Market Square. Your guide explains Delft’s important role in Dutch history and introduces key figures such as Johannes Vermeer and William of Orange. You will also see the historic Town Hall and you'll end at the monumental New Church. The walking pace is easy, and there is also some time for questions.
At the end of the walking tour, you will enter the New Church for a short guided visit. Despite its name, the church dates back to the 14th century. Inside, your guide explains its historical importance and the royal tombs located beneath the church, which connect Delft closely to the Dutch royal family.
After the guided walk, enjoy one hour of free time in Delft to have lunch at your own pace. Delft offers a wide selection of cafés and restaurants around the Market Square and along the canals. Your guide will be happy to give personal recommendations based on your preferences. This free time also allows you to explore a bit on your own, visit shops, or simply relax before continuing the tour.
Visit Royal Delft, the last remaining 17th-century Delft Blue pottery factory. Take part in a guided visit of approximately 40 minutes through the museum and production areas, where you learn about the history, craftsmanship, and international reputation of Delft Blue ceramics. After the guided visit, enjoy up to 30 minutes of free time to browse the museum shop or relax in the café or garden terrace before continuing to the next stop.
At Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, enjoy a 90-minute visit focused on Dutch water management and daily life in and around the windmills. The visit includes a short boat ride along the dike, offering scenic views of the historic windmills from the water. After the boat ride, visit the interior of an operational 18th-century windmill to see its working mechanisms and learn how people lived and worked inside these mills, both in the past and today. You will also enter the historic Wisboomgemaal, a 19th-century pumping station that played a key role in keeping the surrounding land dry. There is time to enjoy a drink or snack at the visitor center, explore the exhibits, and take in panoramic views of the site’s 19 windmills from the rooftop terrace before returning to Rotterdam.
You will arrive back at the Cruise Port in Rotterdam around 05:00 PM.
