Explore Hagia Sophia with a licensed guide & discover the fascinating history of one of Istanbul’s most remarkable landmarks. We will visit the accessible areas of the upper gallery, where U can admire the magnificent dome, Byzantine mosaics, & remarkable architectural details while learning the stories behind them. Please note that Hagia Sophia is currently undergoing extensive restoration. Several areas of the upper gallery & some mosaics may be partially covered or temporarily inaccessible, and the accessible areas may change as restoration progresses. During the tour, your licensed guide will explain the history, symbolism, & architecture of Hagia Sophia, including highlights such as the famous Deesis mosaic & other surviving Byzantine mosaics. Visual materials may also be used to help you appreciate details that are currently difficult to see. This is an engaging historical experience designed to help you understand & appreciate Hagia Sophia beyond simply visiting the monument.
