What to expect
In this unique session, you can experience two pillars of Japanese tradition: soroban (abacus) and shodō (calligraphy).
First, learn the basics of using a real soroban, moving the beads with your fingers to practice simple addition and subtraction. Even complete beginners and non-Japanese speakers can enjoy this fun “mental math” training.
Next, enjoy the calming art of calligraphy. Using brush and ink, you will write your name or a meaningful kanji such as “dream,” “love,” or “peace.” Your finished work can be taken home as a special souvenir.
