  Hells of Beppu refers to a collection of dramatic geothermal hot springs located in Beppu, one of Japan’s most famous onsen towns. Unlike typical hot springs meant for bathing, these “hells” are too hot and are admired for their striking appearances—ranging from vivid cobalt-blue pools to bubbling mud and powerful steam vents. Each site showcases a different natural phenomenon created by volcanic activity beneath the earth’s surface. These unique hot springs have long been a symbol of Beppu’s rich geothermal landscape and are one of the region’s top attractions. Visitors can walk through beautifully maintained grounds, observe the intense natural energy up close, and experience a side of Japan’s hot spring culture that is both visually stunning and deeply rooted in the area’s history. Visit three of Beppu's famous "Hells": Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Pond Hell), and Tatsumaki Jigoku (Tornado Hell).

  Jigokumushi Kobo Kannawa is a unique dining facility in Beppu where visitors can enjoy jigokumushi, a traditional cooking method that uses the natural geothermal steam from the city's hot springs. Ingredients such as seafood, vegetables, meat, and eggs are steamed in special cooking pots, creating healthy and flavorful dishes. Visitors can prepare and steam their own meals, making it a fun, hands-on culinary experience while learning about Beppu's rich hot spring culture. It is one of the best places to enjoy a specialty unique to Beppu.

  Takasakiyama Natural Zoo

  Takasakiyama Natural Zoo is a unique wildlife park located at the base of Mount Takasaki, where visitors can observe wild Japanese macaques living freely in their natural habitat. Unlike traditional zoos, there are no cages—over a thousand monkeys roam the forested mountainside and gather at feeding areas, allowing for close-up and authentic encounters. The zoo is especially known for its scheduled feeding times, when large groups of monkeys come down from the mountains, creating a lively and memorable experience. Visitors can learn about monkey behavior, social structures, and their relationship with humans, making it an engaging and educational stop for all ages.

  Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center is a cultural facility showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of traditional bamboo art in Beppu. Visitors can admire a variety of finely made items, from classic baskets to modern designs. The center also introduces the history and techniques of bamboo weaving, with optional hands-on workshops for a deeper cultural experience. Please let me know which one you would like to visit: the Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center or SHONIN PARK. This center is closed every Mondays. Therefore, if you book a tour on a Monday, we will instead take you to SHONIN PARK, where you can enjoy the sand baths.

  SHONIN PARK is a seaside resort complex in Beppu overlooking Beppu Bay. The park is home to Beppu's only beach sand bath, where visitors can experience the city's famous geothermal sand bath tradition. In addition to the Sand SPA, the facility features restaurants, shops, a foot bath, and relaxing waterfront spaces, making it an ideal place to unwind while enjoying beautiful coastal views. Please let me know which one you would like to visit: the Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center or SHONIN PARK. As the Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center is closed on Mondays, the visit will be to SHONIN PARK.
