Portland’s historic Mississippi District is home to killer live music venues, eclectic shops, and some of the best restaurants, bars and food carts in any city – especially if you know what to look for. On our walking food tour of Mississippi Avenue, that’s exactly what I’ll show you!
Some of the delicious food and drinks we'll sample:
- Perfectly cooked egg sandwiches on fresh-baked sourdough.
- Locally roasted coffee or craft cocktail (or coffee cocktail!).
- Mouth-watering cake & brioche donuts with seasonal ingredients.
- Deliciously authentic cubanos and sweet plantains with mojitos.
- Melt-in-your-mouth brisket & more from the West Coast’s #1 BBQ spot.
Come hungry, thirsty, and curious! The food is the star of this tour, but you’ll also learn about historic Mississippi Ave and the city of Portland. This neighborhood is weird and wonderful, and I’ll share some of the most interesting tidbits along the way.
We meet at the "Fried Egg I'm In Love" restaurant at the corner of N Mississippi Ave and N Fremont St.
We'll meet up and start the Mississippi Avenue Food Tour at Fried Egg I'm In Love. Here, we'll enjoy perfectly cooked egg sandwiches on freshly baked sourdough, accompanied by coffee or cocktail... or a coffee cocktail!
Everybody loves a good donut... and these donuts are exceptional! We'll indulge in a curated tasting of cake and brioche donuts featuring seasonal ingredients that highlight the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.
After devouring those delectable donuts, we'll pop into The Meadow, a Portland staple specializing in gourmet salt, chocolate, bitters & flowers. This is a great gift spot for fellow foodies, and we get to taste their delicious wares!
Next, our taste buds will journey to Cuba with deliciously authentic Cubanos and sweet plantains from Cubo, accompanied by mini mojitos.
With a mix of natural curiosities, carnivorous plants, tasteful taxidermy, artisan jewelry, and mineral specimens from across the globe, Paxton Gate is a treasure trove of eclectic goodies perfectly suited to Portland! Here we'll digest a little and peruse before heading to our final food and drink stops.
Next, we visit one of Portland's best food cart pods for the pièce de résistance, where we'll devour melt-in-your-mouth brisket and other standout dishes from the best BBQ joint on the West Coast! (Trust me, I've been looking.)
