On this tour we will travel the southern highway from Puerto Rio Tranquil to the south, we will pass through one of the drainages of the northern ice field, we will border the General Carrera Lake to its mouth where the Baker River is born, the tour continues from there bordering the river passing by Cochrane. We see landscapes from dense forest to Patagonian steppe.
We will do an 8-hour trek where you will walk on a glacier and a beautiful ancient lenga forest, you will have the opportunity to explore different formations in the ice, on the trail we have impressive views of Mount San Lorenzo, the Torres Mellizas and Lake Proglaciar. You will be in a pristine environment of Chilean Patagonia, this is not a massive place, it is a place with little intervention that few know about, you will do an outdoor mountain activity, you will learn the basic use of mountain equipment.

We leave at 5:00AM from Puerto Río Tranquil, we meet at La Copec, on the way we pass through Puerto Bertrand and Cochrane, if you need us to pick you up at a specific place, send us a message the day before

What to expect

We begin the trip by vehicle at 5:00AM from Puerto Río Tranquil to the entrance of the trail, south of Cochrane.
At 8:00AM we begin the walk with a river crossing, then we continue through a lenga forest to the entrance to the glacier, during this journey we have impressive views of the twin towers, the Calluqueo glacier lagoon and if the day permits also the view of the imposing Mount San Lorenzo. Arriving at the ice we equip ourselves to begin progressing along the glacier, we will do an introduction to how to walk with crampons, where you will learn what is necessary to move safely with the equipment, then we will travel through different formations in the ice, such as cracks, lagoons, seracs, until we reach a point with a good view where we have a snack, from here we begin to return along the same path
Upon returning to the vehicle we have a break with snacks to begin the return trip. We arrived at Puerto Rio Tranquilo at approximately 9:00 p.m.
It is a trek of medium difficulty and high physical demand, we pass through forest, moraine (rock) and glacial ice.
We walked 15km and climbed 500 meters of elevation, a total of 8 hours walking
