Bar Harbor is a beloved coastal retreat, and this 2.5-mile downtown walking tour shows why! Explore the Gilded Age homes, including a tour through the 41-room La Rochelle “summer cottage!” Take the Bar Island Trail, then discover historic churches. The Abbe Museum uncovers Wabanaki History, while the Village Green is a treasure hunt of unique sights. Finish the day with Main Street dining and Atlantic views at Frenchman Bay.
Start at Agamont Fountain, located at the corner of Main Street and Newport Drive, at the entrance to iconic Agamont Park, one of Bar Harbor’s most recognizable landmarks. After booking, check your email for “Download Audio Tour” and download over Wi-Fi/cell service.
Don’t miss this museum among the quaint buildings of downtown Bar Harbor! The Abbe Museum preserves the history of the Wabanaki, the original inhabitants of Mount Desert Island, and interprets the story of the complex ecosystem at Acadia National Park, too.
One of Bar Harbor's most unique natural wonders, the Bar Island Trail is a sandbar that rises from the Atlantic at low tide, opening a walking path straight out to a forested island. You'll have about 1.5 hours on either side of low tide to make the crossing and explore - but don't stress if you lose track of time, water taxis are always available to bring you back!
A great spot to relax and even take in some live music before choosing a restaurant along Main Street. The Village Green has a number of selfie-worthy spots, from the spot where President Taft once gave a speech to a Baroque fountain.
