The Island of Socotra is considered one of the world's best kept secrets. It has been described as one of the most 'alien' looking places in the world by various media sources. Off the beaten path, the island enjoys miles and miles of unspoilt scenery and unique natural sites. Up to 90 % of all biodiversity and fauna can not be found anywhere else in the world.
The holistic experience is all about seeing, hearing and feeling every aspect of the island and experiencing all of its splendours. Including a picnic under the iconic dragon blood trees, hiking up various terrains and checking out the islands caves, in addition to enjoying its pristine beaches characterised by clear turquoise waters and white sands. Star gazing basically every night and enjoying local delicacies. Our tour also covers the main towns so people can interact with the locals and learn more about their way of life, experience the culture and learn about the history.
Once booked, we will arrange flights and visa's - flights leave from Abu Dhabi International Airport in the UAE ( will share flight details once trip is booked). Upon landing on the island of Socotra our dedicated guides will meet you inside the airport and remain with you throughout entire duration of the trip - handling all travel, pick up and drop offs.
Upon touch down our local team will meet and greet you with some refreshments. After a short break - the adventure commences to ‘Aomak’ beach where lunch will be served. After a hearty lunch - hour tour guides will take you around the Socotri villages around the Southern plain, which can be visited solo later. The last leg of the tour is one of the island's unique caves - Dagub cave. Most caves on the island are thousands, even millions of years old - the interior has some fascinating rock formations and has been used by the villagers’ eons ago for special rituals, and to shelter cattle from monsoon season. Day one ends on Aomak beach for one of the most beautiful sunsets we are sure you will witness in your lifetime. Option of outdoor camping or spending the night at a guesthouse.
After breakfast - drive to Diksam Canyon to see the famed ‘Dragon Blood Tree’ Dracaena Cinnabari, unique to the island. Said to hold strong healing properties and hold great importance to the island and villagers. The tree is known to secrete a ‘blood red’ resin - used by the locals for its miraculous healing properties. Will enjoy the panoramic views of the mountain ranges - stop for a picnic under the majestic trees. Then descend to ‘Wadi Dirhur’, a collection of freshwater pools. Will end the day at a local guest house for dinner and spend the night.
The protected lagoon is located West of the island - located in between the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, it is hands down considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The oceanic paradise is home to many rare and unique species - in 2003 the entire island was designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve for the island's rich and diverse wildlife. Next to the lagoon is the village of Qalansiya, second largest on the island, in which we will get to visit and meet the locals and learn about the culture and various activities. We conclude the day with one of the best sunset views on the Island - followed by dinner and camping at Detwah Lagoon.
Head to ‘Qalansiya Port’ the beach of Shoab, home to the spinner dolphins - swimming with dolphins is also an option. Will set ashore at the beach for a restful and relaxing beach day - then head to Detwa for a filling local lunch. Another dinner and camp at Detwah Lagoon.
After breakfast will set towards the Coral Reef at Diharma - after checking out the area there will be an option of swimming, snorkelling in which the coral reef can be seen up close or go fishing with the local fishermen for a chance to catch the day's dinner! The day ends on the pristine beach of Diharmi under the gorgeous milky way - a scene from the movies.
Situated around 30 minutes from Diharmi beach - we will head downhill towards the Kilssan river. The canyon is great for swimming as the water is pure and unpolluted - and rocks perfect for climbing. Lunch will be served on the rocky terrain of the canyon then drive to ‘Aher’ for another stunning seaside experience. Located at the Eastern side of the island, this beach is unique due to its twin white dune formation - in which the water flows out from one of the island's many caves. The day ends with another campsite being set up on the beach under the twinkling stars - dinner and stories around the fire to follow, or a game of truth and dare...
As our tour comes to an end - there will be a drive from Arher beach to Torbeck Village - after refreshments we will set up for a hike for about 1.5 hours to ‘Huq’ cave, considered the largest on the island. The cave is about 3.5 m long and 10-14 m wide. The cave is known for its extraordinary stalactites, stalagmites, and subterranean pools. After the cave exploration and breathing in the fresh salty air - we hike back down to drive back to the campsite on Arher Beach. Considering our last night on the special island -we will host a special dinner with music and all the works!
