    Lisbon Cathedral

    The Lisbon Cathedral began to be built in 1147 in the 12th century and was completed in the first decades of the 13th century when King D.Afonso Henriques with the knights who took part in the Second Crusade took the city from the Moors.

    Church of St. Anthony

    This church is allegedly located in the area where Santo António was born. The current temple was built in 1767, in the area where a chapel had existed since the 15th century. It was visited by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1982.

    Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora

    The Church of São Vicente de Fora dates back to a church begun in 1582 in the area where D. Afonso Henriques had ordered the construction of a primitive temple also under the invocation of São Vicente. This saint was proclaimed patron saint of Lisbon in 1173, when his relics were transferred from the Algarve to a church outside the city wall. Its construction only began in 1590 and was completed in 1627.

    The Estrela Basilica is a Catholic temple and former convent of Carmelite nuns. In late baroque and neoclassical style. Opened in 1794. You can visit if it is open, it usually closes at lunch time.

    It is a Portuguese monastery, ordered to be built at the end of the 15th century by King D. Manuel I and was handed over to the Order of Saint Jerome, with construction beginning in 1502. Manueline style and made of limestone (lioz), sometimes also called of late Portuguese or flamboyant Gothic.

  • Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco) (Pass by)

    Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço) is a square in downtown Lisbon located next to the Tagus River, in the area where the palace of the kings of Portugal was located for around two centuries (which was completely destroyed in the Lisbon earthquake in 1755) . The square as seen now is the reconstruction of it after the earthquake according to the Marquês de Pombal plan. It is one of the largest squares in Europe with 79 arches.
