    The Unconditional Surrender

The Unconditional Surrender statue, also known as "The Kiss" or "Embracing Peace," is a striking 25-foot tall, 3-ton sculpture located in Tuna Harbor Park, adjacent to the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. It depicts a sailor kissing a nurse, inspired by the iconic 1945 V-J Day photograph that symbolizes the end of World War II. This popular waterfront attraction serves as a scenic photo spot and commemorates the joy and relief felt at the conclusion of the war. Originally a temporary installation from 2007 to 2012, its immense popularity led to the creation of a permanent replica, which was unveiled in 2013. The statue was crafted by artist J. Seward Johnson and is part of a series inspired by the historic moments captured in the V-J Day photographs. We love to encourage our guests to choreograph and we will grab some fun photos for your memories!
