Join this off-the-beaten-path guided hike in Anaga, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Start from a remote, picturesque authentic village in the wild northeast of Tenerife (1-hour transfer from Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
Over 5.5 km with 350 m of elevation gain, the trail offers spectacular views of dramatic mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, and an incredibly beautiful, rugged shoreline. Walk through enchanting mixed forests and discover exclusive, non-public viewpoints that most visitors never reach — at one of them, enjoy close encounters with fearless endemic birds like the stunning Tenerife Blue Chaffinch and the bold local Robin, which approach very near since they’re unafraid of people.
This peaceful route sees very few tourists. It includes a short stretch of the protected official Pijaral path — your guide handles all necessary permits.

For your convenience, we provide door-to-door pickup across Tenerife. After a 40-minute drive from Plaza de España, we will reach our first waypoint in the heart of the Anaga mountains to start our adventure.

2Parque Rural de Anaga
We will continue our journey for approximately 20 more minutes along a scenic forest road. Before we start our hike, we will make a strategic stop to observe the unique landscape of El Pijaral. This area is characterized by heavy erosion and steep slopes, featuring deep ravines and near-vertical cliffs. These rugged features have kept the area nearly inaccessible for centuries, which is exactly what has preserved its pristine natural resources so perfectly. It is a true sanctuary where nature remains untouched.

3Las Montanas de Anaga
We begin our hike by ascending along a specially maintained official trail. This path allows us to venture deep into the ancient laurel forest while staying right on the crest of the mountain ridge. Along this route, we will visit three stunning viewpoints, including a "secret spot" where you are unlikely to encounter anyone else, offering true mountain solitude. As we trek, you enter a botanical treasure trove. Over 40% of the species here are endemic to Macaronesia or Tenerife. The star is the Píjara, a majestic giant fern giving the reserve its name. You will walk beneath a lush 'Monteverde' canopy of Hija, Til, and Viñátigo, thriving on moisture from the Trade Winds. Keep watch for the Bolle’s and Laurel pigeons, or even the Madeira pipistrelle—Tenerife's native mammal. This is not just a hike; it is a journey back in time.

The return trip to the main square of Santa Cruz (Plaza de España) or the Cruise Pier typically takes no more than 1 hour from our final trail location. Please be prepared that if your tour started in the South or the far North of the island, additional travel time will be required to reach your final destination. We recommend accounting for this extra time when planning your post-tour evening. Our team will ensure a smooth and comfortable drive back after our forest ridge adventure.
