You will get to eat dishes that you can never eat outside a traditional South Indian home. No restaurant serves this kind of food, and most ingredients we use would surprise you! We are a vegetarian household preserving traditional recipes, and the experience can be accommodated to people who are plant-based. You will also get to use unique tools for coconut cutting, coconut shaving, steaming, etc.

Given our global experiences, we will also help you make connections between our cuisine and your own, and help you adapt what you learn to where you live. We want you to learn our recipes and re-create them in your homes!

Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

We will meet you at the entrance of Ramashray hotel, opposite Matunga Central station. This is a very famous restaurant, and if you are confused, every person in that neighborhood will be able to direct you to the entrance.

End point
This activity ends back at the meeting point.

What to expect

We will begin with a tour of the Matunga market to learn about unique ingredients from South India. We will then head to our house to learn more about South Indian food and culture. Our house also has a little garden, where we grow traditional ingredients for our cuisine. You will get to experience how we live, hear the stories of our family (our house is a multi-generational one with lots of history), and learn about the traditional instruments we use in our cooking. You will then learn to make a few traditional plant-based dishes, with information about how you can recreate them in your home countries. We will then sit together to enjoy a traditional South Indian meal on a banana leaf.
