This experience offers an intimate glimpse into authentic Berber life far from the tourist trail, deep in the peaceful Azzaden Valley of the High Atlas Mountains. Unlike typical cooking classes, you’ll join a real Berber family in their home, not a staged kitchen, learning traditional recipes passed down through generations.

You’ll actively participate in making Berber bread and a home-cooked tagine or couscous, while sharing stories, laughter, and customs with your hosts. The day blends hands-on cooking with cultural immersion, including wearing traditional clothing, visiting a village touched by recent history, and walking alongside rivers and orchards.

With a small group and personalized attention, this is more than a tour — it’s a heartfelt connection to Moroccan heritage, flavors, and landscapes that few travelers get to experience.

What to expect

Discover authentic Berber culture in the peaceful Azzaden Valley with a mix of cooking, walking, and cultural exchange. Start your day in a Berber house, greeted with mint tea and shown how traditional Berber bread is made. Enjoy a simple breakfast of fresh bread, olive oil, and honey before joining your hosts for a hands-on cooking class. Prepare Berber tagine and Berber couscous, made with local vegetables and naturally milled couscous flour, while learning family recipes and traditions.

While your meal cooks, take a gentle 2-hour trek through old villages, riverside paths, and orchards of apple, cherry, and walnut trees. See village life in the Atlas Mountains and areas touched by the 2023 earthquake.

Back at the house, share the meal you helped prepare, relax with Moroccan tea, and enjoy the mountain views. On your return to Marrakech, travel a scenic route past Lalla Takerkoust Lake and the Kik Plateau. A full day of Berber hospitality, authentic cuisine, and Atlas Mountain beauty.
