Timisoara's Revolution Tour is a special walking tour that takes us through the events that happened in Timisoara in December 1989. The Romanian Revolution started in Timisoara an continued to spread in the whole country. We'll get to how and where it all started and walk in the footsteps of the revolutionaries that fought against the communist regime in order for us to live a free, democratic life today.
We'll meet right in front of the Orthodox Cathedral in Timisoara
Our first stop will be at the Reformed Church where the sparkle of the Revolution took places on the 15th of December 1989. Here we'll get to understand the context, see where the revolutionaries stopped the tram and how the rest of the city joined them.
Our second stop will be at one of the hot spots of the revolution in Timisoara, right in front of the entrance to Regina Maria Park. Here we will talk about the first victims of the revolution and how people gathered here to head towards the Communist Party Headquarters.
Our third stop is at the former headquarters of the Communist Party, a place where the revolutionaries managed to take into control and where many people gathered to chant songs against Ceausescu and against his regime.
The tour continues to the city center. We'll see the places where the revolutionaries gathered, where people died, some buildings with bullet marks, and the “balcony of the revolution” – the place where Timisoara was proclaimed the first city in Romania free of communism.
Our last stop of the tour will be on the steps of the Orthodox Cathedral in Timisoara where we will talk about the people that went missing during those days in Timisoara and were never found by their families.
