Den-en-chofu Station is a sophisticated town full of greenery and history, selected as one of Japan's 100 best stations.

Compared to the bustling downtown area, the townscape is calm, but transportation is convenient.

Try calligraphy, which represents Japanese culture, at a calligraphy school located in a convenient location just a minute's walk from the station.

We provide thorough instruction starting with basic exercises, so even beginners can participate with confidence.

You will also have the opportunity to experience the rare practice of grinding ink.

We have several examples of single Chinese characters prepared, but you may also request to write your preferred character.

At the end of the session, you will complete a piece to take home as a souvenir, which we will stamp and present to you.

This experience is available not only for adults but also for children.

There is an escalator on the right side of the ticket gate at Denenchofu Station, so please wait next to it. We will call out to you from here. Please gather 10 minutes before the start time.

What to expect

Please gather in front of the ticket gate at Denenchofu Station or directly at the classroom where the event will be held.

I will give a brief explanation about calligraphy and brushes.

You will experience grinding ink.

We will practice basic lines.

Choose your favorite kanji character and practice writing it on half-size paper.

Write your name on colored paper, stamp it, and you're done.

The event will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.

  • As there are only stairs, we apologize but we cannot accommodate wheelchairs. Strollers can only be accommodated if they can be carried up the stairs to the second floor.
  • Please wear clothing that can get dirty, just in case.
