Check out the decidedly modern addition just next to the ancient Barcelona Cathedral. These 20th century sculptures were created with letters from the artistic alphabet of Joan Brossa in 1992. The six bronze and one aluminum pieces spell out Barcino, which was the name of the city before it became Barcelona.

    Placa del Rei

Plaça del Rei, or Plaza of the King, is a serene Medieval square in the heart of el Gotico. Ensconced by The Palau Reial Major, or Major Royal Palace, it's easy to imagine the counts of Barcelona and kings of Aragon (and perhaps Christopher Columbus?) carrying out their duties under the watchful eye of a majestic 15th century tower.

    MUHBA Temple d'August

These staggering columns from the 1st Century BC are impressive in both stature and history. Standing nine meters (nearly 30 feet) tall, the four columns were part of a much larger temple, dedicated to the worship of Emperor Augustus.

Come with me to learn!
