If you are over 10 miles away from the center of Fairbanks, there will be a small fuel surcharge added to your reservation total. We will pick up from anywhere within a 50 mile radius of Fairbanks, with a fuel fee.
Pick-up between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM from your Fairbanks lodging. Scenic drive southwest through the remote landscapes of the Parks Highway and the small communities of Nenana, Healy, and Cantwell. Looking for wildlife along the way of course. Unlimited photo stops as requested. Once on the Denali Highway; Afternoon of wildlife viewing, photography, guided wild berry picking, and hiking. Learn about local flora, foraging ethics, and traditional uses of the berries. We can also do a little prospecting and gold panning! Arrive at the Lodge in early evening, settle in, and have dinner at the on site restaurant. Then we wait for darkness and begin stargazing and aurora viewing (weather permitting).
This day will be spent looking for more wildlife, and talking in the vast landscapes. We may be able to take a boat tour from the Lodge up the river to the McLaren Glacier, weather dependent. Search for minerals, crystals, and rock specimens in a geologically rich area. Receive a short geology lesson and tools for identifying your finds. Once everyone is ready we will start our journey back north to Fairbanks. Driving the Richardson Highway, and the small communities of Paxson, Delta Junction, and Salcha.
