This self-guided Wales's West Coast road trip is designed to show how the landscapes connect. Rather than simply following a line along the coast, the guide reveals how the character of the shoreline changes from the coves of the Llŷn Peninsula to the horizons of Cardigan Bay and dramatic cliffs.

The guide links 17 destinations with viewpoints, beaches, walking routes and historic sites, helping you discover places that are often missed when planning independently.

Travel the full Llŷn-to-St Davids route or explore individual sections depending on time. Along the way the journey includes castles, harbour towns, the Wales Coast Path and wildlife-rich waters.

Rather than a fixed itinerary, the guide provides narrative context, route progression and flexible planning ideas so you can adapt the journey around weather, walking routes and time available.

With 12 months access included, you can start planning before your trip and return to the guide whenever you need.

What to expect

The Wales Coastal Way Road Trip Guidebook is a structured multi-day journey along Wales’ spectacular west coast, following one of the country’s three national touring routes.

Covering approximately 212 miles (356 km), the journey works best over 5–8 days, with flexibility for 3–10+ day trips. It links beaches, castles, harbour towns and wildlife-rich coastline from the Llŷn Peninsula to St Davids in Pembrokeshire.

The route unfolds across three coastal regions.

Llŷn Peninsula – A quieter Welsh-speaking coastline of narrow lanes, fishing villages and hidden coves, with highlights including Criccieth Castle, Abersoch and the pilgrimage village of Aberdaron.

Cardigan Bay – Sweeping beaches, harbour towns and classic seaside resorts including Harlech, Barmouth, Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, with frequent dolphin sightings along the bay.

North Pembrokeshire Coast – Rugged cliffs and wild Atlantic headlands within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, ending in St Davids, Britain’s smallest city.

This self-guided online road trip guidebook helps you plan and explore the Welsh coast at your own pace.

With 12 months' access included, choose a booking date that allows time for planning.
