Derinkuyu Underground City is an ancient multi-level city located in Derinkuyu, in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. Carved deep into volcanic rock, it extends about 60 meters (200 feet) underground and could once shelter up to 20,000 people, including their livestock and supplies. Believed to have been built as early as the 8th century BCE and expanded over centuries, the city includes ventilation shafts, kitchens, churches, storage rooms, and even a school.
