    The Great Silk Road has long passed through this city, and the famous conqueror Tamerlan, a descendant of Genghis Khan, in the XIV century made it the capital of his vast empire and built here many architectural masterpieces, many of which have survived to this day. The tour starts with a visit to the famous Registan Square, where Ulugbek, Tilla Kori and Sherdor madrassahs are located.

    Necropolis Shah-i-Zinda

    The complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a major Samarkand tourist attraction and an important Islamic holy site. They say going on a pilgrimage to it equals a hajj to Mecca.The shrine of Kusam ibn Abbas is actually a small architectural complex of a few buildings dating back to the 14th - 15th centuries.

    Among historical monuments of Samarkand observatory takes particular place, constructed by Ulugbek in 1428-1429 on one of the hills on height, at the bottom of Chupanata altitude. By Babur’s words, which saw the observatory, it was three-storied covered with beautiful glazed titles building of round form 46 meters in diameter, 30 meters in height. In the main hall huge instrument was placed for observations of Moon, Sun, and other stars of the vault of heaven.

    Bibi Khanym Mosque

    As well as all Samarkand monuments the Bibi Khanym Mosque also has the beautiful legend. According to it, the formidable ruler built the mosque in honor of his favorite wife Bibi Khanym. After successful campaign to India Temur decided to build the biggest building of the East – the mosque – which should have exceeded all mosques of the world by its size. Sparkling walls, high minarets, wide portal of the mosque, decorated with carved marble, must have praised for centuries the name of Temur and his favorite wife.
