The Obihiro River, which is so rich in nature that it is hard to believe it is in the middle of a city, attracts many migratory birds such as whooper swans from Siberia and other regions in winter. Early in the morning, at the lower reaches of the river where the current is slower, you can observe a variety of birds gathering gracefully along with the magnificent scenery.
Also, when the temperature is low, you can see the phenomenon called “fog and ice,” in which river water vapor adhering to tree branches freezes. It is so beautiful that it can be called a work of art created by the dignified and severe nature.
You will cruise on a highly safe boat called an “e-boat” while viewing the fantastic sight of shimmering rime. Here in Tokachi, you can fully enjoy the unique nature of Hokkaido's winter.

What to expect
The Obihiro River flows calmly, and you will proceed at a leisurely pace while observing the birds gathering in the magnificent scenery.
Migratory birds such as whooper swans can be seen only during this season, and when the temperature drops below minus 15 degrees Celsius, the vapor from the river freezes on the branches of trees, a phenomenon called “fog and ice.
At the end of the tour, you will receive delicious local sweets as souvenirs. After you leave, you can enjoy the afterglow of the winter river cruise while eating the souvenir sweets.
Please note that you may not be able to see the rime ice and swans due to weather conditions, as they are natural phenomena. Please understand in advance.
