Depart from your accommodation in Oudtshoorn (after a brief introduction of the Klein Karoo) towards the Swartberg Mountain Pass. Encounter the changes in landscape, fauna and climate. Encounter the majestic rock formations of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Photograph the craftsmanship of the road builders, with breathtaking views of the north and the south! We will travers over a 1500m high mountain, with possible sightings of some rare Klipspringer antelope!

Lunch stop in the small Karoo town of Prince Albert. Old world charm meet modern efficiency. Hear about this town history and the connection to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. View the artistic impact of sculpturers and painters transforming the Old Colonial houses to brightly coloured guest accommodation and art studios.

WE enter the gorge of the Swartberg Mountain range and follow it from north to south. This was the original gateway between the inland Great karoo and the Ocean for trading with the passing ships. We stop in the gorge and walk the 300 meters to a cascading waterfall and rock pool. The brave of heart can have a swim and learn about the mermaid living in this pool!

We will be following a circular route and have stop and exit points along the route for photography, leg stretch and bathroom breaks! About 3 hours of flowers, nature and changing landscape will indulge your senses

5Cango Caves
The Cango Caves are an UNESCO Heritage site and one of the seven wonders of South Africa. It is a world renowned archaeological and historical highlight of the Klein Karoo. It is situated 30 kilometers outside Oudtshoorn.

We travel to a working ostrich farm, where we start our tour with a tractor ride amongst the different breeds of ostriches. You will have a wonderful interactive encounter with ostriches. PLEASE NOTE THAT OSTRICH RIDING IS NO LONGER PERMITTED IN SOUTH AFRICA.
