The Castle of Paderne (Portuguese: Castelo de Paderne) is an ancient fortification located in the civil parish of Paderne, municipality of Albufeira, in the Portuguese Algarve. It was constructed in the later 12th century by Berbers, in an area around 7.5 kilometres inland. The edifice is located just 8.2 kilometres from the resort town of Albufeira, along a bend in the Quarteira River. It is believed to be one of the original castles that occupy the shield of the Portuguese national flag.
After visiting the castle we headed to the typical village of Paderne. Here the guests had the opportunity to explore the small village. Use the toilet or possibly drink or eat something in local establishments (not included). With more than seven centuries of history, Paderne is situated inland of the municipality of Albufeira. The old village was located within the walls of its castle. Having been ruined after the 1755 earthquake, it has gradually been moved northwards, about 2 km away from the castle, where it is currently located. Paderne is a typical village of the Algarve Barrocal, which despite being only 12 km from the coast, strongly maintains its traditions and customs. With traces of an inland village, Worth visiting, the wealth produced in the village in its heydays, has left architectural marks that time insists/refuses on erasing, as witnessed by the large farmhouses, located both in the village's urban area, and in the hills that surround it.
Leaving Paderne, we followed rural paths towards a small property to taste local products. The well-known honey, jams and the famous fire water, "Medronho". Also experience a typical self-sufficiency production farm. Agriculture and animals.
After traveling along rural paths with stunning views, we arrive at another of the most beautiful and typical villages in Portugal, Alte. When the weather allows a great opportunity for a refreshing swim. Or just relax by the pool and waterfall. The fountains are important points of attraction for locals and tourists, due to being easily accessible and to their abundance of water. In the past, they served as a meeting point for women who washed their clothes at the fountains or carried water home.
