Private Guided Spearfishing in Cornwall

6 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Guided by Surf Sanctuary founder Dom Moore, this private experience is built on decades exploring Cornwall's coastline. Surfing since 1997 and teaching ocean sports professionally since 2003, Dom combines a First Class Natural Sciences degree with RLSS lifeguard and RYA VHF qualifications, bringing scientific understanding, fieldcraft and professional judgement to every session.

Rather than returning to the same location each day, every trip is tuned to recent, current and forecast wind, swell, tide and underwater visibility, selecting the venue offering the best combination of safety and hunting conditions. P

Premium California-made Riffe equipment is provided throughout. Learn fish behavior, ethical harvesting, hunting strategy, shot placement and, if successful, how to humanely dispatch and prepare your catch.

What to expect

Meet your guide at Surf Sanctuary, based at The Headland Hotel in Newquay. After changing into your equipment, you'll be introduced to safe spearfishing, including equipment use, safety procedures, fish identification, legal minimum sizes and responsible harvesting.

Rather than visiting the same location every day, your guide will assess the wind, swell, tide and underwater visibility before selecting the most suitable venue. Depending on conditions, this may be in Newquay or elsewhere on Cornwall's coastline.

Once in the water, you'll learn efficient finning, breathing, duck diving and underwater movement before progressing to hunting techniques. You'll be coached in approaching fish, selecting safe shots, loading and unloading the speargun, and understanding how local species behave around reefs and kelp forests.

Throughout the session you'll receive continuous coaching, adapted to your experience. If you're successful, you'll also learn how to dispatch, bleed, transport and prepare your catch for the table. Every session is tuned to the conditions on the day, with the venue and approach selected to maximise safety, water clarity and hunting opportunities.
