Tradition traces the origins of Semproniano to the Roman Gens Sempronia and, nearby (Rocchette di Fazio area), archaeological remains of a farm dating back to the Etruscan period have been found. The historical documentation certainly dates back to before the year one thousand, when the villages of Semproniano and Rocchette belonged to the fiefdom of the Aldobrandeschi family. Towards the middle of the fourteenth century the town submitted to Siena, thus remaining in the territory of the Republic until the sixteenth century, a period in which it was temporarily conquered by the Spanish before definitively entering the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. A long period of abandonment and decline followed, so much so that the center was subsequently incorporated into the Municipality of Roccalbegna for a long period, until it became independent on 29 January 1963.

From Semproniano to Rocchette di Fazio, you will cross the suggestive Bosco dei Rocconi via a dirt but easily passable path. If the cyclists are at a beginner level, we will opt for an easier route.

The town is a characteristic and scenic medieval village that stands on a picturesque limestone cliff, at the gates of the Bosco dei Rocconi nature reserve. During this stop, we will taste honey from a local artisan company, which will explain the honey processing phases.

We will stop in a farmhouse in the middle of the mountains and taste the local products while enjoying a breathtaking view of the valley. The roads along which you travel during the tour have little traffic and allow you to enjoy the Maremma landscapes without being constantly disturbed by passing cars. If we are lucky, as often happens, we will see roe deer, hares and small foxes in the surrounding fields. Return to the starting point.
