Visiting a place it's more than exploring and taking pictures. It's also about understanding what makes that place special and unique, it's culture, it's people. I've lost count of how many people I've encountered that regretted renting a car and exploring on their own (all the stress involved and the nature of the island twisty narrow roads contribute to that), or others that at the tea or pineapple plantations ask me to give some explanation about what they are seeing when they are not my clients and realize what they are missing. On a private tour, tailored to your needs and interests, you can let an experienced tour guide drive you around in a safe and relaxed environment, learn about the places you visit and, in some way, become a local too. You won't have to divide the guide's attention with others, it's a private tour! You'll learn the local culture, economy, habits while being driven by not only a local experienced guide… But a friend!
The pickup will take place in the clients accomodations, within a 15 km radius of Ponta Delgada.
Learn everything about the process of production of the São Miguel pineapple, a process that uses unique techniques to create a unique fruit.
Going up the west crater stop here to embrace this beautiful view over the north and south coasts of the island
In the highest point of the road you can do a short hike to Canário Lake, and observe the surroundings of this protected landscape area.
In the main viewpoint over the famous lake inside this crater you can witness the sheer size of this crater, the small village that existes inside it as well as the beautiful lakes, which altogether, creates a special atmosphere from this viewpoint.
Going down the road that leads inside of the crater, from this viewpoint you'll have a different perspective of the lakes and village.
Yet, another lake, Santiago lake, is visible from this viewpoint, a small crater contained within the main one.
As we finish the descent into the bottom of the crater, we stop at the bridge that divides both lakes, for another perspective of this giant crater and some photos.
In the center of this small village you can visit a quite unique church where a small trail with Norfolk pines and cedars leed to Saint Nicholas church.
Explore a little bit of the center of the village and take a break to use bathrooms or have a drink or snack at a local bar.
The final stop of the tour takes you to the western most point of São Miguel. A viewpoint over the ocean, used as a whale watching spot in the past, and with a view over Ferraria in one side and the village of Mosteiros on the other.
Driving back to your accommodations we take the road over the south coast of the island, meanwhile, you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the views.
