This excursion is the perfect introduction to Bariloche, starting in the city center and continuing along Av. Bustillo, following the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, which will accompany us for most of the journey.
Cerro Campanario is one of the most famous viewpoints in Bariloche and offers one of the best panoramic views in Patagonia. From its summit, about 1,050 meters above sea level, visitors can see several lakes such as Nahuel Huapi, Moreno, El Trébol and Perito Moreno, as well as the San Pedro and Llao Llao peninsulas. The chairlift that takes visitors to the top was inaugurated in 1958 and quickly became one of the region’s most popular attractions. From this point it is possible to better understand the geography of Nahuel Huapi National Park and appreciate the landscape of mountains, lakes and forests that characterizes Bariloche.
The Llao Llao Peninsula is one of the most iconic areas of Bariloche and lies between Nahuel Huapi and Moreno lakes, surrounded by Andean-Patagonian forests. Its name comes from the “llao llao,” an edible fungus that grows on trees in the region and was traditionally used by the native peoples. The peninsula is also home to the famous Llao Llao Hotel, inaugurated in 1938 and considered one of the most iconic hotels in Patagonia. The area is part of the Llao Llao Municipal Park and is well known for its natural landscapes, hiking trails and viewpoints that showcase the beauty of the surroundings.
The Lago Escondido Viewpoint is one of the scenic stops along the Circuito Chico, offering a view of this small lake surrounded by Andean-Patagonian forests. Its name, “Escondido,” meaning “hidden,” comes from the fact that the lake lies tucked between mountains and dense vegetation, making it visible only from certain elevated points along the road. From this viewpoint visitors can also see part of Lake Nahuel Huapi and better appreciate the natural landscape that characterizes the Bariloche region.
Bahía López is a beautiful bay located on Lake Nahuel Huapi, at the base of the impressive Cerro López, along the Circuito Chico route. This place is known for its calm waters and for offering one of the most representative views of the region, where mountains, forests and the lake create a typical Patagonian landscape. The bay is also the starting point for several mountain hikes, including trails that lead to Refugio López, one of the most well-known mountain huts in Nahuel Huapi National Park.
The Circuito Chico Panoramic Point is one of the most famous viewpoints in Bariloche. From this spot visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Moreno, the Llao Llao Peninsula and the mountains surrounding the region. This viewpoint clearly shows the combination of lakes, forests and mountains that characterize the Patagonian landscape. Because of its wide view and natural beauty, it is one of the most photographed places along the Circuito Chico route.
