The Monk’s Trail in Chiang Mai is a peaceful jungle path once used by Buddhist monks to walk between temples on the mountain. Today, it offers a scenic and authentic hiking experience through lush forest, shaded by tall trees and accompanied by the sounds of nature. Along the way, you’ll pass orange robes tied to trees, marking the sacred character of the trail. NOTE 1: If you book the early morning tour, you will first visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, followed by Wat Pha Lat, and then walk the Monk’s Trail downhill. If you book the afternoon tour, you will start with the hike uphill to Wat Pha Lat. NOTE 2: The Monk’s Trail is generally considered an easy hike (30-45 minutes) for people in normal physical condition. However, parts of the path are uneven and may be slightly steep or slippery, especially after rain. While most participants complete the hike without difficulty, some guests may find it a bit more strenuous. This tour is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.

    Wat Pha Lat

Wat Pha Lat is one of Chiang Mai’s most enchanting and lesser-known temples, quietly hidden in the forest on the slopes of Doi Suthep. Surrounded by dense jungle, flowing streams, and moss-covered rocks, the temple feels worlds away from the busy city below. Originally, Wat Pha Lat served as a resting point for monks on their pilgrimage up the mountain to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. According to local tradition, the path now known as the Monk’s Trail was used for centuries by monks walking between the city and the sacred mountaintop temple. Wat Pha Lat provided a place to pause, meditate, and find shelter along the way. What makes this temple truly unique is its seamless integration with nature. Instead of grand golden structures, you’ll find wooden buildings, stone pathways, and shrines that blend harmoniously into the forest.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of Northern Thailand’s most sacred and iconic temples, perched high on the slopes of Doi Suthep mountain. According to legend, the temple was founded in the 14th century during the reign of King Kuena, when a sacred relic of the Buddha was placed on the back of a white elephant. The elephant climbed the mountain, stopped, and passed away at the spot where the temple now stands, which was seen as a divine sign. The temple’s golden chedi shines brightly and is surrounded by detailed murals, statues, and bells, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. For Thai people, it is an important pilgrimage site and a symbol of Chiang Mai. When the weather is clear, the viewpoint offers a magnificent panoramic view over the city and surrounding countryside, making the visit both culturally and visually unforgettable.
