    It formed naturally thousands of years ago in a low-lying peat area. The name Rotoroa is Māori and means “long lake.” The lake is significant to local Māori iwi (tribes). Its original Māori name is now widely used alongside “Hamilton Lake.” Our lunch stop is taken here.
