A great tour if you are visiting Kinsale for the first time! This is the way to see the absolute best of Kinsale town and all the sights around Kinsale harbour. Using e-bikes, your guide will cycle with you around the coast, visiting mighty forts and beautiful beaches. From high level roads, we'll stop to enjoy views of Charles Fort, James Fort and we'll cycle through colourful, picturesque Kinsale. We'll visit Sandycove, where you can try to spot some of the wild goat population who live on Sandycove island. The pace is relaxed and the views are spectacular!
Please note that this cycle is best suited to confident cyclists who are comfortable with steep up and downhills and are happy to cycle in traffic.
Any remaining time not accounted for in the attractions list is spent cycling and exploring the Kinsale area by electric bike. This bike tour is a great way to see beyond Kinsale town.
Meet in the upper car park (not the lower 'Student Car Park') which is the main car park for the college. You should see the 'Wild Atlantic Sports van there.
Our meeting point is in the car park of the Cork College of FET, Kinsale. Here, you'll be given bikes and helmets. We'll do a practice cycle before we set off to make sure you are comfortable on your ebike!
We'll pass by the Bulman Pub in Kinsale en route to Charles Fort.
We'll cycle to the magnificent Charles Fort which is one of the most popular attractions in the area. Charles Fort is a star-shaped structure of the late seventeenth century. We'll stop here and have a look from outside.
We'll be cycling along the coastal route of the Wild Atlantic Way. Great scenery!
We'll get amazing views of James Fort as we cycle along the high roads around Kinsale harbour. This fort was built in 1607 to guard the harbour.
We'll park up the bikes for a few minutes to enjoy the small but popular Dock Beach. From here you can enjoy views of Charles Fort from across the harbour. Normally there are good views of boats sailing in the harbour and often sea swimmers braving the cold water!
We'll cycle along the inlet to the Sandycove area. We'll stop for a time to enjoy views of the island, sea swimmers and boats. On clear days, you can get a good view of the Old Head of Kinsale (a peninsula with lighthouse, signal tower and well known Old Head Golf Links).
The tour will finish at the same point as we started. We will normally have stopped for a tea/coffee or soft drink (included) in one of the pubs, cafés or coffee trailers along the way.
