The island today semi deserted has been over the centuries the beating heart of Lake Como, the first signs of civilization found on the island date back to the second century D.C. but the real development and fortification of the island began only around the sixth century. The Comacina Island and its inhabitants played a fundamental role in the Ten Years’ War fought between the cities of Como and Milan, but unfortunately the alliance with Milan led to the complete destruction of the Island.
