Tirana's Secret Valleys Hike & Village Lunch

9 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

This hike is unique. We spent many days over the winter of 2024/25 in the Tirana Valleys researching the route.

Unlike most Tirana day trips, our hike takes place in Tirana County itself. There is no long transfer! It is just 24km from Mother Teresa Square to the hike start point (we'll allow 40 minutes).

You'll be walking through a beautiful area that has zero tourism activity, and is not visited even by Tirana folk. We're very confident that the only people we'll meet are local villagers and shepherds.

The scenery is simply incredible. You won't believe you are just a few kilometres from Tirana.

This hike is possible to make from early October through till the end of April. In the summer months the temperatures are just too hot for comfortable walking.

Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

Due to Tirana's notorious congestion, we ask you to meet us at Mother Teresa Square. From here we can get out of town and onto the highway relatively quickly, without being stuck in traffic.

End point
This activity ends back at the meeting point.

What to expect

This is a unique hike through the Tirana Valleys that we developed over the winter of 2024/25.

You will need a good level of fitness and be prepared for some steep climbs on poorly maintained paths. The only people walking these trails are local shepherds, and us!

The hike begins with a climb up from the trailhead on little-used mule paths. After about an hour and a half of walking, we'll reach a hidden valley, and a small village that still has no asphalt road connection.

From here the terrain gets easier, as we pass through rolling farmland, ending at the village café around 14.00. Here we'll enjoy a beer (or raki) and a simple lunch made from ingredients sourced in the village.

At 16.00, Benny, the village's school-bus driver, will take us back down to asphalt in his treasured 1980s Mercedes minibus. The distance is only about 7km but the road is extremely rough, so the descent will take about 40 minutes!

The drive-time back to Tirana is difficult to estimate due to the city's crazy traffic!
