The rare opportunity to trek mountain gorillas twice within a short, well-paced itinerary while using the most efficient routing from Kigali to Bwindi. Instead of long drives from Entebbe, this safari maximizes time in the forest and minimizes time on the road.
Unlike standard gorilla trips, this experience allows you to observe two different gorilla families or the same family on different days, giving deeper insight into their behavior, social dynamics, and personalities. Each trek is completely different, making the second encounter just as powerful as the first.
The tour is also highly flexible and personal. It is private, tailored to your pace, and can be adapted to different fitness levels, accommodation styles or special needs such as porter or sedan-chair assistance. Staying inside or close to Bwindi ensures early access to the trekking sectors and a more immersive forest experience.
You will be picked up early morning from your hotel or Kigali International Airport by our professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, begin the scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills toward the Cyanika border. Border formalities are usually straightforward and assisted by your guide. Continue into southern Uganda, driving through terraced landscapes and rural communities before arriving in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the afternoon. Check in to your lodge, enjoy lunch or refreshments, and spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for your first gorilla trek.
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will then be assigned a gorilla family and begin your first trekking experience, accompanied by experienced guides and trackers. The trek can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat—watching them feed, interact, and move through the forest. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest. The afternoon is at leisure, allowing you to relax, enjoy forest views, or take a short community walk around the lodge.
Wake up early for your second gorilla trekking experience, offering the chance to visit a different gorilla family or even a different sector (subject to permit allocation). This second trek provides a deeper appreciation of gorilla behavior and often feels very different from the first encounter. After completing the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and freshen up. In the afternoon, begin the drive back to Kigali, crossing the border into Rwanda and arriving in the evening. You will be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
