Mysore, also known as the Ivory City, is one of India’s most opulent cities. It is famous for its silk saris, sandalwood and handicrafts. Attractions include prehistoric sites, monuments, museums, temples, mosques, and churches. The historic city of Mysore is famed for its magnificent palaces and majestic buildings, gardens and tree lined streets. Your four days in this unique region will allow you to explore its treasures.

This morning you’ll be picked up in Bangalore and driven to Chikmagalur, en route visiting Shravanabelagola. This town is one of the important tirthas (pilgrimage destinations) for those of the Jain faith. In Shravanabelagola, you can see the Bahubali Statue which is one of the tallest monolithic stone statue in the world carved out of a single block of granite. You will continue on to Chikmagalur. After breakfast, visit Belur to see the magnificent Chennakesaya Temple with its intricate sculptures. It is one of the largest and most famous Hindu temples of medieval Indian art. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vijayanarayana, one of the twenty four incarnations of Vishnu.
You will then go to the town of Halebid. Here, visit the Hoysaleshwara Temple, with its succession of friezes depicting the tableaus of everyday life in ancient times. The temple was built in the 12th century and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Continue to Mysore.
Explore Mysore, the cultural capital of the state of Karnataka. The people of Mysore are famous for their peaceful attitude and helpful nature. Your guided tour will visit the Mysore City Palace, one of India’s most spectacular royal buildings. The Palace was the seat of the Wodeyar Maharajas, who ruled the kingdom from 1399 to 1950. You will see the extravagant opulence and fine details of the interior. Admire the paintings, elaborate architecture, the intricately carved doors, mosaic floors and stained glassed windows.
Then visit the beautiful Brindavan Gardens, known for their symmetric designs and illuminated terrace gardens. The gardens contain an array of illuminated, cascading fountains and flowering plants.
Drive back to Bangalore, enroute visit the island fortress and Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatnam. It came into prominence during the rise of Hyder Ali and his famed son Tipu Sultan, who converted it into a fortified city. It was the power center of South India for a long time, before Tipu Sultan lost the last of the four battles against the British East India Company.
