    The Glorietta Bay Inn was originally built in 1908 as the mansion home of John D. Spreckels, a wealthy businessman and sugar baron who significantly contributed to the development of both Coronado and San Diego. Spreckels commissioned architect Harrison Albright to design the mansion in 1906, with construction completed in 1908 at a cost of $35,000.
