Capitoline hill
Go inside the Colosseum with pre-reserved tickets and understand the context of its construction, what it came to symbolize throughout the centuries, from a privileged viewpoint. As in the movie “Gladiator”, it has hosted violent and brutal displays of gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights, all just for the delight of crowds. Inauguration lasted one hundred days, and approximately 9,000 animals and 2,000 gladiators were killed during the event. Today, the Colosseum is Rome’s most visited sight, which never fails to leave visitors awe-struck.
Follow your guide and understand the different phases of occupation of the Roman Forum, the very heart of the ancient city with its approximately 2,500 years of nearly continuous history.
Continue to Palatine hill, where ancient Rome started out as a small Iron Age village of huts and where the myth of the twins suckled by the she-wolf is set. See the remains of the elaborate residences that the emperors built in lavish competitions to outdo their predecessors. With the help of our expert we will reconstruct the architecture of the past and learn about power and propaganda during the Roman Empire.
Our last stop is the Capitoline hill, the sacred heart of the ancient city with some of the most important and earliest temples. We will take one last stunning view of the heart of ancient Rome before climbing up to the Campidoglio and end our tour in the square designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
