Discover the Joys of Circling the World Heritage Island Miyajima
This plan takes you on a sea journey around Miyajima aboard a ferry. Departing from Miyahama Onsen, located on the opposite shore of Miyajima, you will circle the island, visiting Itsukushima-jinja Shrine and seven other shrines from the sea. Famous as a World Heritage site, Miyajima has long been called the "Island of Gods." It is said that the island's shape inspired a sense of divine presence, leading people to worship it. As you sail from Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, you will see the peaks of Miyajima, which resemble the reclining figure of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. What kind of Kannon do you see?

[02:00] Continue cruising to Okushin Pier. This tradition originates from the legend that the deity of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine circled the island searching for a place to reside. Following this custom, visitors to Itsukushima-jinja Shrine would perform a ritual called “Nanaura Pilgrimage" to purify their minds and bodies. This sacred ritual, practiced for over 1,500 years, was even performed by Oda Nobunaga. Reflect on the historical figures who shaped Japan as you undertake this pilgrimage.
