Jasper Inflatable Whitewater Kayaking Adventure

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Immerse yourself in the action, close to the water and in control of your own craft. Paddle into waves, get soaked and take on five sets of Class 2 rapids in your own inflatable kayak as your guide leads downstream in a separate kayak. Experience every wave, splash and rapid up close.

Inflatable kayaks are stable and responsive, making them approachable for first-time paddlers while delivering a hands-on whitewater experience. Learn to control your kayak and put your new skills into action on the Athabasca, with calmer stretches between the rapids before the action picks up again.

No previous kayaking or whitewater experience is required. With full instruction, it’s an exciting choice for adventurous travellers looking to try something fresh in Jasper.

What to expect

Get ready for a hands-on whitewater kayaking adventure on Jasper’s Athabasca River. Begin at the Maligne Rafting check-in point in Jasper, then travel by bus to the river. Once there, change into the provided gear and receive a full safety briefing and paddling instruction before getting into your inflatable kayak.

Start by learning how to control and manoeuvre your kayak, then head downstream for approximately one hour on the Athabasca River. Your guide leads the way in a separate kayak while you paddle and steer your single or double kayak, following their direction as you navigate five sets of Class 2 rapids.

Be prepared for plenty of action—and to get soaked! Sitting close to the water in your own inflatable kayak puts you right in the middle of the splashes as you paddle into waves and manoeuvre through the whitewater. Between the action, enjoy calmer stretches of river and surrounding mountain scenery before the next burst of whitewater.

No previous kayaking or whitewater experience is required, but participants must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water. Guests under 18 paddle in a double kayak with their accompanying parent or guardian.
