On the sidewalk, under the cables of the Mt. Roberts Tram. Please be at the designated location 15 minutes prior to departure time. Alaska Travel Adventures representative will be wearing a red jacket/shirt and a red hat. Present your voucher to the representative.

What to expect

Upon arrival at Mendenhall Lake, your experienced, friendly guide will help you with life jackets and rain gear before teaching you kayaking techniques. Then you will board the two-person kayaks, with either a new friend or traveling companion, and set off on your Alaskan adventure.

Journey across Mendenhall Lake in your stable kayak, navigating the iceberg-studded pristine water that is truly one of the jewels of the Tongass National Forest. Your guide will explain the nature surrounding you, pointing out native wildlife and fascinating you with the history and ecology of the Mendenhall Glacier. Venture within a safe distance of the massive, awe-inspiring face of the glacier and skirt the base of the beautiful Nugget Falls.

Gold Creek Salmon Bake has something for everyone! Your all-you-can-eat feast features Alaskan-caught wild salmon, Cheechako chicken, Chilkoot baked beans, Tongass wild-rice pilaf, Alyeska au gratin potatoes and a robust selection of other sides, salads and beverages. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Vegetarian or gluten-free? There's plenty to tempt your palate! And, just when you think you've had enough, bring on the blueberry cake for dessert!

  • Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries
  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 13 to 17 must have a signed parental consent form to participate without a parent or guardian.
  • Client must be able to use upper body strength to paddle kayak approx. 2 hrs
  • Guests taller than 6' 3" will not be able to steer with foot pedals and will have to steer with the oar instead. You may still participate, it is just an item to take into consideration when choosing the tour.
  • Minimum weight: 40lbs
