The Castle of Berat, perched on a 187-meter-high hill overlooking the Osum River, is one of the oldest inhabited castles in the world. This remarkable fortress, with walls extending up to 1,400 meters and an area of 10 hectares, showcases the evolution of various historical periods, from its origins as a proto-urban settlement in the 7th-5th century BC to its significant transformations through Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras until the reign of Ali Pasha Tepelena.
