In the evening, you’ll be picked up from your Beijing hotel and taken to the train station for an overnight train ride to Xi’an. Your train will arrive in Xi’an in the morning, and you’ll be taken to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, your second day begins with a fascinating tour of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses the Terracotta Army (or the Terracotta Warriors and Horses). This amazing archaeological site features a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Your guide will explain that these figures are buried with the emperor to protect him in his afterlife.
At midday, have lunch and then return to Xi’an in the afternoon for a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty. Explore the interior with your guide and learn how this religious site's purpose was to house Buddha figurines that were brought to China from India.
Enjoy an evening tour of the Muslim quarter. Pass shops selling various kinds of local Shaanxi produce, arts and crafts, and stop by a local restaurant carefully chosen by your guide to enjoy a dinner of Muslim specialties.
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be taken on a morning tour of the Ancient City Wall, a wall stretching around the entire city that was erected in the 14th century by Ming Dynasty rulers. Observe gates, tunnels, watch towers and battlements and learn about the significance of these structures from your guide.
Next, visit the Shaanxi History Museum, one of the first large state museums with modern facilities in China. Browse interesting cultural and historical relics – the museum displays more than 300,000 items – including murals, paintings, pottery and coins, as well as bronze, gold and silver objects.
