This full-day tour offers a blend of education, tasting, and relaxation, exploring the history, craftsmanship, and unique flavours of Pinotage, with an added educational stop at Stellenbosch University.

Begin at the legendary Kanonkop Estate, known as the "Home of Pinotage." Enjoy a guided tour of their vineyards and cellars, learning about the history of Pinotage and Kanonkop’s pioneering role in its development. Follow up with a tasting session featuring their award-winning Pinotage wines, including the iconic Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage.
Visit Stellenbosch University, where you’ll learn about the father of Pinotage, Professor Abraham Izak Perold, who created the varietal in 1925. A brief lecture will be given on his work, his legacy in the South African wine industry, and how Stellenbosch University played a role in developing and promoting Pinotage.
Next, visit Beyerskloof, where you’ll meet the “King of Pinotage,” Beyers Truter. Enjoy a guided tour and a tasting session that showcases the estate’s range of Pinotage wines, from their easy-drinking Pinotage Reserve to the exclusive Diesel Pinotage. Highlight: The Diesel Pinotage, named after the winemaker’s beloved dog, is a must-try.
Lunch: Enjoy a gourmet lunch at the Lanzerac Deli, paired with a glass of their signature Pinotage Rosé. This historic estate is where the world’s first bottled Pinotage was produced. Tour and Tasting: After lunch, take a leisurely stroll through Lanzerac’s picturesque vineyards and conclude with a tasting of their premium Pinotage range in the historic tasting room. Highlight: The Pinotage Ice Cream, a unique treat available at the deli.
Continue your Pinotage journey at Simonsig, another pioneering estate in the Stellenbosch region. Participate in a guided cellar tour followed by a tasting that includes their Redhill Pinotage, known for its rich and complex flavours.
