First, we’ll explore the museum of art in nature, a pioneer of this artistic movement in Italy, active since 1996. The route follows a trail maintained by the artists themselves within the Valle del Treja Regional Park. You’ll see around 50 artworks, including sculptures and installations, that blend into and interact with the natural surroundings of this biodiversity-rich forest, all made with material from the wood. The path is almost entirely shaded. Your guide, who will accompany you throughout the entire walk, is a member of the museum’s board. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for about a 2-hour walk in the woods. We provide drinking water.

We move by car to the nearby hilltop village of Calcata Vecchia. Its incredible natural setting has attracted artists since the 1960s. The village features architecture dating back to pre-Roman and medieval times. Here, you can stop at one of the simple local trattorias for lunch and sample authentic dishes at your own expense—it’s optional. Prices are suitable for every budget. Then we’ll visit together the largest and most beautiful art gallery in the village, admiring the sculptures and paintings of a brilliant contemporary artist who has chosen to retreat here, while also taking in the unique architecture of the studio. The pieces on display are not for sale. After we’ve offered you a coffee or cappuccino, we’ll set off to explore the narrow lanes and panoramic views of this village suspended above a lush valley. We’ll share its history and legends with you. You’ll have some free time to wander on your own and discover the village and its little shops before we head back.
