I’m a Master Cicerone (1 of 29 in the world), a former Brewmaster, a Certified Sommelier and an experienced operator of fun, educational, 5-star beer experiences. I’m based in Montana, USA, and since 2017, I’ve led tours of my favorite beer spots in Germany & Belgium.
A perfect experience for anyone who likes beer and culture, regardless of whether you're a German lager lover or just curious to taste why Munich beer is so special. We'll visit a beer hall and 2 taverns, taste many different beers and 2 classic dishes, sample barley malts, and learn tasting tips, beer science & history while soaking in the sights of beautiful, beery Munich!
Though my Munich beer tour is new on Viator & TripAdvisor, check out my **all-5-star** reviews of my Montana beer tour: https://www.viator.com/tours/Bozeman/Bozeman-Brewery-Hop/d22771-5496002P1
The tour is in English (but I can speak a little German and French), and I offer written guides to Belgian beer in Spanish, French, Dutch, Italian & German.
We meet at the Mariensaeule, the column in the middle of the Marienplatz topped with a golden Maria figure. I'll be on the north side of the column (the side that faces the Neues Rathaus/New City Hall).
We'll walk about 10 minutes to this gorgeous beer hall, Rich will offer the group a guided tasting of several essential Munich beer styles, and you'll also enjoy a classic Munich "Brotzeit" snack such as a soft pretzel with spiced cheese dip.
After a 10 minute stroll, Rich will welcome you his favorite cozy beer and sausage house, operating since the late 1800s across from the famous Frauenkriche cathedral. You'll enjoy a half liter of Augustiner beer while sharing a platter of classic Nürnberger-style mini bratwursts with a side of potato salad or spätzle dumplings.
After a 5 minute walk, we'll arrive at the Viktualienmarkt, Munich's historic outdoor food market. We'll stroll through it, witnessing the action, smelling the delicious smells and seeing the edible wonders of the food vendor stalls.
Right next to the Viktualienmarkt, we'll stop for a beer at the indoor or outdoor "standing bar" and patio of Giesinger Bräu, brewer of delicious pioneering craft beer styles as well as classic Munich lagers. Afterward, we'll walk 5 minutes back to the starting point at the Mariensäule, across from the Neues Rathaus or New City Hall in the Marienplatz.
