Castillo de San Marcos rises proudly along the St. Augustine shoreline. Its thick, gray coquina walls form a distinctive star shape, with angled bastions jutting out toward the bay. Watchtowers and old cannons line the ramparts. The fort’s rough stone contrasts with the shimmering waters of Matanzas Bay, where its reflection dances on calm days.
