Family-owned: Heaven Hill is the largest independent, family-owned distilled spirits company in the United States. A defining moment: A fire destroyed the Bardstown distillery in 1996. The company continued operations with help from industry partners. Heaven Hill acquired the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville in 1999.
